Complete Chimney Inspections
Feel Confident Every Time You Start a Fire
Knowing what’s going on inside your chimney is an important part of keeping your home safe and your fireplace working the way it should. Problems like cracks, broken bricks, bird nests, or thick creosote can be hard to spot on your own. That’s why chimney safety experts — including the CSIA and NFPA — recommend that every homeowner get a chimney inspection at least once a year.
Even if you almost never use your fireplace, hidden issues can still develop and put your home at risk. A yearly check helps catch problems before they grow.

Which Chimney Inspection Level Do You Need?
Chimneys don’t all need the same type of inspection every time. The NFPA 211 standard groups inspections into three levels, each designed for different situations. Here’s what each one means:
Level 1 Inspection — The Basic Safety Check
This is the standard inspection when nothing has changed with your fireplace or chimney.
Our team looks at all the parts we can easily see to check for:
Blockages
Creosote buildup
Visible cracks or damage
Anything that could stop smoke from flowing out properly
Although this level is perfect if your chimney has been working the same way year after year, we take it a step further and include a full interior flue scan of the flue liner as well as check all visual components from the top down.
Level 2 Inspection — A Closer Look Inside
This level is recommended when something has changed — such as:
Buying or selling a home
Changing your fuel type
Installing a new appliance
Experiencing damage from storms or other events
We use special tools, such as ChimScan camera systems, to look deep inside the flue. This gives us a clear picture of the chimney’s interior and helps us find issues that can’t be seen from the outside.
Level 3 Inspection — A Full, Detailed Investigation
This inspection is only needed when a serious problem is suspected.
A Level 3 may require removing parts of the chimney or nearby building areas so we can see hidden sections. This helps us locate major safety hazards and understand the full extent of the damage. You can consider a level 3 inspection a major remodel or over haul.
When Should You Get a Chimney Inspection?
Besides your yearly inspection, there are other times when scheduling a professional check is important, including:
Buying or selling a home
Noticing changes in how your chimney works
Switching to a new type of heating appliance or fuel
Changing or repairing your flue liner
After severe weather, such as heavy wind or lightning
After any kind of chimney fire, even a small one
These inspections make sure everything is safe, efficient, and ready to use.
